The Health Benefits of Wet Saunas

You will enjoy both the health benefits of wet saunas or dry-heat saunas with these two basic types of designs. Both types use volcanic rocks and an air heater. With a dry sauna, the sauna rocks are left as they are. A wet sauna, often called a steam sauna, is accomplished when water is splashed onto the rocks and quickly vaporizes because of the extreme heat of the rocks. When you sit in a wet sauna, you sweat profusely, your body temperature rises, and your heart beats faster. So, why would anyone want to put themselves through this kind of torture? The price for good health is often hard work. However, the health benefits of saunas won’t require much effort on your part.

The physical benefits that you experience while sitting in a wet sauna are very similar to those benefits you experience when you perform moderate physical activity such as exercise. In fact, you can burn a significant amount of calories while sitting in a sauna. If part of your health program is to lose weight, spending time in saunas on a regular basis along with following a healthy diet can result in a healthy weight loss. Other health benefits you can experience in wet home saunas include increased blood flow and respiration, as well as the elimination of toxins from your pores as the steam from the water vaporizing on the sauna rocks causes them to open.

Stress is a normal aspect of daily life. However, an excess of uncontrollable stress can lead to a myriad of health problems. Another health benefit of wet saunas is that the steam can relax your body. Athletes often use wet or steam saunas after a rigorous workout to speed up the repair of their joints and muscles. Athletes often perform such workouts consecutively for weeks at a time. The relaxation of the joints and muscles that occurs mimics the process of recovery that is needed between rigorous exercise programs. You can create an intense relaxation experience in a wet sauna by adding fragrance to the rocks. When water is splashed onto the rocks, fragrance that comes in contact with the rocks becomes the beneficial vapor that you inhale. You probably don’t want to use an overwhelming fragrance. The popular aromatherapy fragrances are probably healthier.
