Wood Burning Steam Saunas – The Most Popular Choice in Saunas

When you’re ready to build your own sauna, you will find that wood burning steam saunas are the preferred choice for an authentic Finnish sauna experience. The aroma and scents of a cedar sauna combined with the crackling of a real wood burning fire just doesn’t compare to electrically heated steam rooms. If you have access to a free supply of wood and don’t mind the manual labor of cutting and chopping your supply, there is the additional advantage of saving money you would have to spend on electricity or natural gas.

The Polar Sauna Wilderness Wood Stove is ideal for backyard outdoor saunas and can be used indoors if installed according to your municipal building code. This is an energy efficient wood burning stove with a large rock capacity needed to produce the high humidity of a steam room sauna. The steam is produced by pouring water over granite or river rocks on top of a stove. An optional 5 gallon water tank can be placed in the front of the heater for an ample supply of easily accessible water.

The heavy-duty wood burning sauna room heater comes with a stainless steel exterior heat shield to prevent accidental burns. The chimney can be routed from the top of the stove or out the back. A steam sauna heats up quickly with this energy efficient stove because of the double flame circulation system resulting in even heat transfer to the rocks. An optional glass window lets sauna bathers view the fire while soaking up the soothing heat.

A sauna room heater that burns wood is ideal for recreating the feel of a traditional Finnish steam sauna. There are six different models to choose from with rock capacities from 77 – 132 lbs suitable for heating saunas measuring 282 – 987 cubic feet. The rocks are free but add to the shipping costs. You may be better off collecting your own or buying them locally.
